San Diego gas prices have retreated a couple of pennies a gallon this week after reaching record levels last weekend. The Utility Consumer's Action Network says the average price of a gallon of regular gas is $3.49. That's down about two cents from last weekend.

UCAN's Charles Langley says consumers should see lower prices next week, but he's not sure how much lower the price will go.

Langley : I expect prices to come down, and they should, given what's happening on the market right now. But since we don't have a very competitive market at the wholesale level, they're probably not going to come down very much.

Langley says Senator Charles Schumer's call for an investigation into high gas prices could help bring the cost down. He says anytime there's a credible threat of a probe into the oil industry the impact on prices is quick.
