Tintocalis : Cohn says he will leave San Diego Unified a year-and-a-half before his contract officially runs out. Cohn says he doesn't have the energy or enthusiasm to manage the state's second largest school district.

Board member Sheila Jackson says that was a polite way of saying that Cohn wasn't happy with the way some school trustees were impeding his reform efforts.

Jackson : There was some micro-managing going on and in order to be effective you really need to be able to do your job and not have someone micro-managing or put you under a microscope continually.

School trustees agreed to a “no meddling” clause which is written into Cohn's contract. The 62-year-old superintendent has over 40 years of experience in education and is credited with turning around the Long Beach Unified School District. He's known for his holistic approach to education reform. Cohn's been with the district for over two years.
