Another Arrest made in Kidnap for Ransom Case

A seventh man affiliated with a ring of kidnappers in San Diego's Southbay is in custody. The man is charged with kidnapping a man for ransom in Bonita two years ago. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has the story.

Guillermo Merino allegedly kidnaped Abelino Inzunza as he was getting ready to take his children to school in April, 2006. Court documents say four Latino men grabbed Inzunza from his Bonita driveway, forced him into a van at gunpoint and held him at a San Diego home for a day and a half.

Court papers say during that time the kidnappers confined Inzunza in a way that threatened his life. The papers say the kidnappers released Inzuna after his family paid a $200,000 ransom.

In addition to Merino, Inzunza identified two other members of the South Bay kidnap ring as his captors. The two are already in custody for another kidnapping.

Law enforcement officials say the kidnap and murder crew has operated in the South Bay for the last four years. Officials say the crew targets members of Tijuana's Arellano Felix Drug Cartel.
