SAN DIEGO Chula Vista’s Park View Little League team is remaining focused as the squad prepares for the semifinal round of the Little League World Series.
The Park View team is avoiding outside distractions and the boys are spending most of their free time in the dorms. Rod Roberto is president of Park View Little League and the father of the team’s right fielder. He says the coaches offered the boys two choices when they arrived in Pennsylvania.
“They said we can either have a lot of fun and try to win baseball games. Or we can have a little fun and really focus,” he says.
Roberto says the boys chose the second option, even giving up their cell phones. If parents want to talk to their children they go through the coaches. He says while the kids are calm, the families and parents are pretty excited. Roberto says the team hasn’t been affected by the large crowds. He says the kids play the same whether they’re in front of a few people or thousands.
