Search For Bonsall Family Crosses Border

The Baja California Attorney General's office is assisting the San Diego County Sheriff in the effort to locate a missing Bonsall couple and their two young children.

The Baja California Attorney General's international liaison, Jesus Quinones, says investigators suspect the McStay family may have crossed to Mexico because their car was found abandoned in a San Ysidro parking lot.

Baja investigators are reviewing arrest records, looking in jails and working with Baja's department of family services to locate the children.

Baja California and San Diego Sheriff's representatives say they are looking into whether the family has ties to Tijuana, Mexico, or countries farther south.

Joseph McStay and his family have been missing since February 4, 2010.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
