A Navy shipyard worker has been charged with arson for allegedly starting a fire aboard the USS Miami that caused $400 million worth of damage, according to the Navy.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service arrested Casey James Fury, 24, in connection with the fire at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, where Fury was an employee.
Fury made his first appearance today before a federal magistrate in Portland, Maine.
The Associated Press reports that Fury told Navy investigators he set the fire to leave work early:
Fury was taking medications for anxiety and depression and told investigators he set the fires so he could get out of work, according a seven-page affidavit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland.
Fury was also charged with setting a smaller fire at the shipyard on June 16.
