The Camp Pendleton-based 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit is returning home Wednesday after a seven month deployment at sea.
According to an 11th MEU press release, the majority of the 11th MEU's 2,200 Marines will come ashore Wednesday on helicopters and landing craft. Others will return to San Diego on June 22nd with the ships on which they were embarked. Those ships are the USS Makin Island, the USS New Orleans, and the USS Pearl Harbor.
11th MEU commanding officer Col. Michael R. Hudson said of the deployment:
“We were able to sharpen our skills while strengthening partnerships with our hosts. From survival and jungle training in Cambodia and Malaysia to full-scale raids and live-fire exercises with counterparts throughout the Middle East and Horn of Africa, this deployment employed all the capabilities of our air-ground-logistics team.”
