3 Marines Dead In Suspected Double Murder-Suicide At Quantico (Video)

Three Marines are dead after a suspected double murder-suicide at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.

The American Forces Press Service reports the shooting incident began late Thursday night, and that the shooter was dead of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Marine Corps officials told CBS News the shooter killed an active-duty male and female Marine before turning the gun on himself after retreating to an empty barracks dorm room at Quanico's Officer Candidates School.

All three Marines involved in the incident were permanent personnel assigned to Officer Candidates School, according to a Quanico news release.

In a statement released this morning, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel spoke of the tragedies that have befallen the Marine Corps this week.

“This tragedy, as well as the tragedy in Nevada earlier this week, took the lives of Marines who volunteered to serve their nation,” Little said. “His heart and his prayers are with them and their families. He believes that the legendary strength of the United States Marine Corps will ensure that they are forever remembered.”

The names of the dead have not yet been released.
