San Diego Blood Bank Needs O-Negative Donations

The San Diego Blood Bank announced Wednesday it needs donations of O-negative blood, the universal blood type.

A patient at an undisclosed hospital is having an emergency procedure that will require a large amount of the blood type, according to the Blood Bank. Patients with O-negative blood can't use any other type.

"Because there isn't time during emergencies and traumas to type blood, we maintain a supply of O-negative blood, but this emergency is likely going to deplete our supply and we are encouraging anyone who knows they are `O-neg' or just wants to help support (in) the crisis to come to our of our centers or community drives," said David Wellis, the Blood Bank's CEO.
