San Diegans See Flash In Morning Sky

More than 150 people reported seeing a greenish-blue flash in the skies over Southern California Thursday morning.

Social media was buzzing about the streak in the sky that appeared about 6:40 a.m.

The American Meteor Society tracks sightings around the United States. They recorded more than 150 sightings, which are tracked on this map. The society also uploaded a video of the streaking light to YouTube:

The Palomar Observatory in San Diego County did not record the event, because it was already daylight and their telescopes and other instruments were off.

The observatory's public affairs coordinator, Steve Flanders, said descriptions of the incident led him to believe it was either a meteor or space junk.
