Workers are on the USS Midway today, installing the basketball floor for the Midway Classic. The "Battle on the Midway" will feature the San Diego State Aztecs taking on the Syracuse Orange. Because of a forecast of rain, the game has been postponed until Sunday, according to 10News.
SDSU head coach Steve Fisher said of the event:
"We are very excited to be participating in the Battle on the Midway. We look forward to bringing the focus of the nation to the military, the city and San Diego State University with this wonderful event."
This is the second year San Diego is hosting a college basketball game held on an aircraft carrier. On Veterans Day 2011, the USS Carl Vinson hosted the Carrier Classic on its flight deck, with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels defeating the Michigan State Spartans 67-55.
