The City has been at the forefront of sustainability since rolling out its citywide recycling programs in 1993, joining the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 1997, and publishing its first Climate Action Plan in 2000. The City also developed an Operations Sustainability Plan and a Waste Reduction Strategic Plan, or Zero Waste Plan, that considers “People, Planet, and Prosperity” as the “triple bottom line” to achieve social, environmental, and economic sustainability and a green local economy and community.
