Tony Gwynn Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame

Former San Diego Padre outfielder Tony Gwynn will enter the Baseball Hall of Fame this year. “Mister San Diego” was at Petco Park yesterday afternoon to talk about the milestone. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.

The answers came easily. Yes, he was happy. He expected to be voted in, although there were doubts. He was proud of his 20 year career. He says his eight batting titles came from the great hitters of the game – Williams, Musial, and Rose. When asked what is dad would think, Gwynn started to answer, stopped and then gathered himself.

Gwynn: I think he’d be pretty proud today. I think he’d be pretty darn proud.

Gwynn played his entire professional career in San Diego and now coaches the San Diego State University Aztecs. He finished his career five years ago with three thousand 141 hits.
