Grid Operators Wary as Heat Wave Continues to Fry SoCal

The heat wave continues to bake much of California this Labor Day. And with the continued hot spell comes increased use of fans and air conditioners. The agency that operates the state's power grid wants us to conserve energy.

Fishman : Even though it's not a Flex Alert day we are encouraging people to do what they can to conserve electricity during those afternoon hours. We know your air conditioners are going to be working, that's fine. If you can set the themostat a little bit higher, that would be helpful.

He says we should set the thermostat at 78 degrees, cut back on electricity use between 4-to-6 this afternoon, and wait until after sunset or tomorrow to use major appliances.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning today for near-record high temperatures from the inland valley's to the mountains and deserts. Temperatures are expected to start cooling down by Wednesday.
