Tom Fudge: San Diego is well into the spring season, and summer is on its way. If our concerns about homelessness are seasonal in nature, this tends to be the time when we stop thinking about the problem. Maybe that's why the local charity San Diego Rescue Mission sponsors its annual fundraising event this month; to keep the mission in peoples' minds. The event is called Sleepless in San Diego .

The problem of homelessness, obviously, doesn't go away when the weather is mild, and some people wonder if it ever will go away. I don't know whether Herb Johnson thinks the problem is ultimately solvable, but he's certainly trying to make a difference. He is the president and CEO of the Rescue Mission.
