Parental Notification Backers Will Try Again

Backers of the parental notification measure known as Prop 4 say they’re not discouraged by the initiative's defeat. In fact, supporters say they want to put a similar measure on the next ballot. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.

Prop 4 would have required doctors to notify parents at least 48 hours before performing an abortion on a minor.

California voters have rejected the concept three times over the last four years. Even so, Prop 4 c38aign spokesman Albin Rhomberg says it's worth another shot.

Albin Rhomberg: It's a very popular issue, it's a very good issue, and obviously under those circumstances it would be foolish to give up on it.

Planned Parenthood spokesman Vince Hall says the issue is bogus.

Vince Hall : It was invented as a strategy to attack Planned Parenthood by draining our resources, forcing us to fight political c38aigns when we should be serving the community.

Planned Parenthood raised more than seven million dollars to defeat Prop 4.
