The Women's History Museum and Education Center announced today a name change to The Women's Museum of California.
"As one of only five women's history museums in the country, we felt it was fitting to claim the right to be The Women's Museum of California," said Ashley Gardner, director of the museum.
"Our tag line `preserving the past, inspiring the future' encompasses our long-term mission to educate current and future generations about the experiences and contributions of women," she said.
Gardner also said the museum plans to move from its longtime Golden Hill location to Liberty Station, when the second phase of the Promenade opens, possibly by the end of the year.
Increased activity, interest and donations to collections require a larger, more accessible space, Gardner said.
