Carlsbad Schools Briefly Locked Down From Unspecified Threat

All 15 Carlsbad Unified campuses briefly went into lockdown today due to an anonymous email threat claiming that someone with a weapon was at one of the schools, according to police. The menacing message was received at a Carlsbad Unified School District office in the late morning, Sgt. Steve Sutt said.

The threat did not mention a specific campus, so police increased patrols around each of the district's

elementary, middle and high schools, he said. By shortly after noon, district administrators had checked out all the

campuses and cleared them for normal operations, according to Sutt.

There was no immediate indication that the threat was valid, and no suspects were in custody as of early afternoon, the sergeant said.

A woman who answered the phone at the district's main office and refused to give her name said "no one was available to make a statement" about the security scare.
