A commuter airline based in Portland, Ore., announced today it will begin serving San Diego on March 1.

SeaPort Airlines will fly five nonstops between Lindbergh Field and Imperial County Airport during the workweek, and two each on Saturday and Sunday. The flights are scheduled to last 45 minutes.

"We're very pleased to be adding Imperial County Airport and San Diego International to our growing route map,'' said Rob McKinney, the president of SeaPort Airlines. "We expect that customers in both communities will embrace the high frequency and customer-friendly service that has been a pillar of the SeaPort experience since our very first flight.''

The company is recruiting customer service staff for both airports. It also said it will offer shuttle bus service from the Commuter Terminal to Terminals 1 and 2 at Lindbergh Field so passengers can make connections.

An introductory sale fare of $39 each way is available for purchase through March 31 for the San Diego-Imperial County flights, good for flights through June 30.

The 31-year-old carrier offers flights to 20 cities in Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas, flying Cessna 207, Cessna Caravan and Pilatus PC-12 propeller aircraft.
