Four Camp Pendleton Marines Killed In Base Accident

Four Camp Pendleton Marines died Wednesday in an accident on base. The Marines were killed at around 11 a.m. as they conducted maintenance operations on the base, according to a Camp Pendleton news release.

Marines spokesman Lt. Ryan Finnegan told Reuters that the Marines died during an accident that occurred "while clearing a training area of obstructions."

The marines were killed at the Zulu Impact Area in the interior part of the base just north of San Diego.

Brig. Gen. John W. Bullard, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West - Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, said in a statement:

"We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families of the Marines lost today in this tragic accident. Our first priority is to provide the families with the support they need during this difficult time."

The Marine Corps has not yet released the victims' names.
