SDSU Student Reports Sexual Assault Following Party; Two Men Detained

Two men were detained and a third man got away early Friday following a short pursuit in Kearny Mesa stemming from the apparent drugging and sexual assault of a female San Diego State University student, police said.

The woman told officers she awoke at the Residence Inn on Kearny Mesa Road early today to find a strange man standing over her, according to San Diego police.

She did not know how she got there but said she had attended a college party earlier and believed her drink may have been spiked because she had only been drinking water, police said.

Shortly after the woman called police, officers responded to the hotel and briefly pursued a vehicle with three men inside. Two of the men were detained on Mercury Court, near Mercury Street, and a third got away on foot, police said.

The outstanding suspect was described as black, 19 to 21 years old, with braided hair. He was last seen wearing a light colored shirt and dark pants, police said.
