Death Of Army Captain In Afghanistan Under Investigation

Army Capt. Jason B. Jones killed in Afghanistan

An investigation is underway into the death of decorated Army Special Forces Capt. Jason B. Jones, 29, who lost his life on June 2, in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense reports he died of wounds "received from small-arms."

He was assigned 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Jones grew up in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. WITF-TV reports he graduated from Blue Mountain High School in 2003 and went on to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Blue Mountain High Principal Kevin Berger told WITF-TV:

"People have nothing but the highest of regard for this young man. His character, his capabilities, and what they had continued to expect from him is nothing but top-notch."

Jones leaves behind his wife, parents and a sister, according to Philly.com.
