State Capitol Flags Flown Half-Staff In Honor Of Fallen California Soldier

Army Pfc. Daniela "Dani" Rojas

Gov. Jerry Brown has ordered flags over the State Capitol be flown at half-staff today in honor of fallen California soldier Pfc. Daniela Rojas, 19, who died of a 'non-combat related' illness in Germany on May 3.

The governor's office released a statement that reads, in part:

"On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Pfc. Daniela Rojas, who bravely gave her life in service to our state and nation.

"The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to her family and friends at this difficult time."

Rojas deployed to Afghanistan on Feb. 1. She was medevaced to Germany when she became ill. A Landstuhl Regional Medical Center spokeswoman told Stars and Stripes that Rojas was immediately rushed to the hospital in Homburg...

..."[because her illness] would have required treatment beyond our capability.”

The Department of Defense has not released any information on the nature of the illness that killed Rojas.

As Home Post reported last week, Rojas grew up in Boyle Heights, and was a 2012 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles. She joined the Army on Oct. 22, 2012.

Rojas was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

lovestarr --- because on the run-up to the June primaries, Dems want the Latino vote locked down. Duh. BTW- she should be honored for her service but flying flags half-staffed makes a mockery of honoring exceptional service or accomplishments to America.
