Santa Ana winds were expected in the valleys and mountains of San Diego County today, prompting meteorologists to issue a wind advisory.
The National Weather Service scheduled the advisory until noon Thursday, saying sustained northeast to east winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 mph were expected. Also, isolated gusts up to 55 mph were possible through Wednesday.
The advisory did not extend into coastal or desert areas.
A wind advisory is issued whenever winds strong enough to make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, are expected.
The strongest winds will arrive late at night into early the next morning each day, the Weather Service said.
Also today, warmer daytime highs than Monday were expected throughout the region. Highs today were expected to be 77 to 82 degrees in coastal areas, 79 to 84 in the western valleys, 73 to 78 near the foothills, 61 to 69 in the mountains and 77 to 82 in the deserts.
The warming trend will continue through Thursday, according to the weather service, which said a fire weather watch would go in effect Wednesday morning for the valleys and mountains.
The watch, which means dry, windy and warm conditions are in store, will expire Thursday evening, the NWS said.
