Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (John Nettles) returns for season 3 of MIDSOMER MURDERS, a crime series based on the novels of Caroline Graham. A lush visual style, quirky characters, and ubiquitous red herrings recall classic public television British mysteries of the past. At the center of the MIDSOMER MURDERS is Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, who investigates killings with a professional, no-nonsense style, ably assisted by his chief deputy, Detective Sergeant Gavin Troy (Daniel Casey).

The cases include the cricket-bat murder of a landowner’s wife, the bludgeoning of an unidentified tramp, a series of suspicious deaths in a nursing home, and the pitchfork slaying of a local man. Full of the best elements of the classic British murder mystery, Season 3 of MIDSOMER MURDERS consists of fascinating, entertaining cases of intrigue and suspense.

"Dead Man's Eleven" (Parts 1 & 2) airs Thursday, Sept. 7 at 10 p.m. on KPBS TV - DCI Barnaby’s plans to move to the village of Fletcher’s Cross are disrupted when the wife of a landowner is bludgeoned to death with a cricket bat while out walking her dog in the village of Midsomer Worthy. The bat belongs to the landowner’s son, but has no fingerprints on it. Barnaby and Detective Sergeant Troy gradually find themselves caught up in a succession of sinister murders.

MIDSOMER MURDERS: Dead Man's Eleven Preview

“Blue Herrings” (Parts 1 & 2) airs Thursday, Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. on KPBS TV - With a week off from work to redecorate part of his house, DCI Barnaby also visits his elderly aunt, Alice Bly, who is convalescing in the Lawnside residential nursing home for the elderly in Aspern Tallow. Here, she prompts him to investigate a series of suspicious deaths after people have changed their wills.

MIDSOMER MURDERS: “Blue Herrings” preview

“Judgement Day” (Parts 1 & 2) airs Thursday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. - The residents of the village of Midsomer Mallow fear for their chances of winning the Perfect Village competition when a local thief and womanizer is brutally killed with a pitchfork. Worse, there is no shortage of suspects, and then two of the judges are murdered.

MIDSOMER MURDERS: Judgement Day preview

“Death of a Stranger” (Parts 1 & 2) airs Thursday, Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. on KPBS TV - DCI Barnaby returns from a holiday in France to discover an unidentified tramp has been beaten to death in the woods near the village of Marshwood. While he was away, Supt. Ronald Pringle, just before his retirement, quickly arrested a local young man. But Barnaby’s suspicion that he is innocent is reinforced when there is an apparent suicide at the same spot. He tries to uncover the connection before there can be another murder.
