Another bout of strong gusty winds building Friday in San Diego County's mountains and valleys is expected to stick around into the weekend, as are high surf and strong rip currents along the coastline south of Del Mar.
A National Weather Service beach hazards statement is scheduled to remain in effect through Saturday afternoon. Surf of 4 to 6 feet was forecast for Friday and 5- to 8-foot surf was expected Saturday.
"A large westerly swell will cause high surf and strong rip currents along the west facing beaches of Orange and San Diego counties," according to the weather service.
Forecasters said that as the surf and rip currents were building near the beaches, strong gusty winds would be developing in the mountains and valleys. A high wind warning for those areas is scheduled to remain in effect from 10 p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday.
Northeast winds with sustained speeds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are forecast along with gusts that could reach 75 mph in some areas.
"Surface high pressure over the Great Basin will bring periods of strong gusty northeast winds for coastal mountain slopes into adjacent foothills areas for late tonight into Saturday evening, with winds decreasing from the northwest for late Saturday night into Sunday morning," according to the weather service.
Forecasters said the strongest winds would likely be around the coastal mountains and foothills on Saturday.
The weather service warned that strong winds may down tree limbs and could lead to difficult driving conditions, especially for motorists in high profile vehicles.
The winds are expected to weaken on Sunday, forecasters said.
