Pilot Hospitalized After Laser Directed At San Diego Flight

An American Airlines pilot was hospitalized Wednesday after a laser light was directed at his flight as it approached San Diego International Airport.

The flight, American Airlines flight 563, from Phoenix, landed safely at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, an airport operations spokesman said.

It was not known if the pilot was injured or hospitalized as a standard precaution, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the laser was pointed at the flight as it was on approach, about five miles east of the airport.

The laser was pointed from the south side of the flight path, the spokesman said.

The incident was being investigated by Harbor Police.

A Harbor Police dispatcher said no information was available.
