California voters this year will elect a governor, a U.S. senator and weigh in on a number of local contests and ballot propositions.

In San Diego County, the list of candidates running in the 49th congressional district continues to grow after Republican Congressman Darrell Issa said he will not seek re-election.

There is also a traditionally Republican seat on the board of supervisors up for grabs, a district attorney’s race and three San Diego City Council races on the 2018 ballot.

KPBS Midday Edition is checking in with the leaders of the county’s Republican and Democratic parties to find out how they are preparing for the midterm elections.
