It’s been nearly 50 years since American astronauts from NASA’s Apollo 11 landed on the moon. A new film series called "Summer of Space" is coming to KPBS television this summer tells the story of the race to outer space and all of the research that has come from that exploration.
KPBS is hosting a sneak preview of one of the films, “American Experience Chasing the Moon," along with a panel discussion with leaders in space exploration is happening tonight in San Diego.
One of those panelists is Major General Charles Bolden Jr. who flew on four missions including the space shuttle Columbia in 1986 and later became the first African American administrator of NASA.
Bolden joined Midday Edition Tuesday to talk about how far space exploration has come in the last 50 years and what he hopes to see in the future.
