Gun Incident Prompts Arrests At San Diego Middle School

The San Diego Unified School District says seven middle school students were arrested and could face criminal charges after two guns and ammunition were found on campus last week.

Michelle Irwin, principal at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Scripps Ranch, sent a message to parents on Monday about the incident last Thursday.

Irwin says a fellow student reported the suspects to school administrators. The guns were not loaded and no one was hurt.

She says two students were placed in Juvenile Hall and have since been released. The others were released to the custody of their parents.

Six students have been suspended with a recommendation for expulsion. The seventh student was suspended for five days.

The district says the case has been referred to the district attorney's office for review.
