Authorities reopened northbound state Route 163 in Balboa Park at 3 p.m., according to Caltrans.

A stretch of the freeway had been blocked off because a suicidal man was threatening to jump off the Laurel Street Bridge, the California Highway Patrol reported.

It forced the closure of both sides of SR-163, as well as the 10th Avenue ramp to SR-163.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
