Several cars of a freight train derailed in the Barrio Logan neighborhood around 8:10 p.m. August 13.

Crews Thursday righted three cars of a freight train that derailed in the Barrio Logan neighborhood and blocked a stretch of a nearby roadway.

The derailment occurred around 8:10 p.m. Wednesday on the San Diego side of the Coronado Bridge, adjacent to the 1800 block of Harbor Drive, according to San Diego police. The derailment triggered no hazmat issues, and no one was injured.

The accident prompted authorities to close Cesar Chavez Parkway at Harbor Drive.

Lena Kent of Burlington Northern Santa Fe said the train was en route to Clovis, New Mexico, when it derailed.

Crews used a crane to place the cars back on the tracks. Cesar Chavez Parkway was reopened early Thursday afternoon, police said.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
