San Diego County Property Taxes Due Friday

Friday is the deadline for San Diego land owners to pay the second installment of their property taxes, or face a 10 percent penalty.

"The countdown starts now; pay as soon as possible to avoid hefty penalties," said Dan McAllister, the county treasurer-tax collector.

"All five branch offices will offer extended hours on Friday, April 10, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m."

The offices are located in downtown San Diego, Kearny Mesa, Chula Vista, El Cajon and San Marcos.

The downtown office is the only one that will accept cash. McAllister said the downtown and San Marcos offices will offer drive-through service.

Payments can also be made online at sdtreastax.com, or by phone at (855) 829-3773.

As of last week, around 550,000 payments remained outstanding out of 984,600 property tax bills that were mailed for this fiscal year.

The bill are expected to generate $5.08 billion in revenue.

Late property tax filers will not only get hit with a 10 percent penalty, but also a $10 fee, according to McAllister.
