There has been public television, or films your family brings back from you 70, what makes this film different? This is the first film shot in IMAX for this incredible medium. We have been wanting to make a film on the national parks for a long time. We're so excited to be able to work with partners we have to become reality for this year. It is the you the parks, the 100th anniversary. I think audiences love able to go in misadventure in these incredible places. Used helicopters, use drones, you filmed in places that a lot of people don't see if that they could the national parks, isn't that right? It was interesting. There is just over 400 National Park Service sites. It is a 40 minute. Obviously you cannot visit each one of them. But we wanted to have the iconic parks in there like Yosemite, Yellowstone, glacier, but also some hidden gems like pictured rocks national Lakeshore we found our climbers including Rachel climbing up icy waterfalls . It was stunning. Yes, you were featured in a couple segments of the movie couple shot in Utah, I believe. You tell us about biking in Moab and then in purchase state park your rockclimbing? Yes. And you are climbing on the three penguins rocks, what was that like? Climbing the three penguins at the entrance of the park was pretty outer worldly experience. I had to clean the top are 12 times. We were filming with the helicopter so there was sand in rotor wash blowing. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. How high are these? The three penguins is only about 230 feet off the ground. We started before the sun was up walking up to them. The actual climb isn't Super Bowl, but there is a lot of exposure, then you add in the helicopter. And doing it 12 times. And doing it 12 times. Becomes very exciting. What precautions came into filming these? You see bikers who are biking in Moab. The redoing these incredible stunts. Yes. Of course, we needed to make sure it is done as safely as possible. A big part is to how we decide on who to work with as far as casting, but also who to work with around the set. For this, we wanted to not only showcase these amazing parks but people to identify with the characters in unique environments. That is where was so much fun being able to work with Rachel . And Max low. It was such a fun experience being able to work with them. Rachel, you're an artist. And I understand your involved with the national parks because you've also created or court -- her work in those parks. Tell us about that. My favorite things to paint with beautiful iconic landscapes. Of the national parks hold a lot of those spots in our country. In places that inspire us and have certainly inspired me to paint. It is really from a very young age I've been in interested in painting rugged beautiful places. And now you got to combine them. Exactly. Witchhunts in the national park still take your breath away? There's so many. Like you said, Southern Utah has incredible places when you think about canyonlands, arches, cyan. It was such an amazing experience being with the team in the trucks national Lakeshore. I don't know if you seen this footage yet, but we going to these magical ice caves. You feel like it's from Mars almost its otherworldly. Being at Yellowstone we were able to film with aerials of the Graham prismatic. It's just stunning. Obviously, everybody knows it we shot in unique light. Being able to see these on a giant domes screen like we have at the science Center you feel like you're being transported to these amazing places. While we were going there I kept on going, I can't wait to take my five-year-old boy on a road trip. Maybe when the one-year-old is a little older. It really inspired you to want to go well and experience nature. And we have amazing places to explore. Let me refer to the Cabrillo National Monument, it is celebrating us also the share. Joining us is Eileen Martinez chief interpretation of Cabrillo National Monument. We have a number of parks interdependence throughout the year. Those will include the big celebration on August 25 or we will have and open tower day. We will also have -- hopefully have the horses carriage group bring their vehicles up. That means people can go up to the top flight houses that right? That is right. In fact we have one next week on Tuesday. We have all of our events listed on our website. But the National Park Service, actually start off of the Rose Parade. We start off on on it -- with an equestrian unit in the Rose Parade. Throughout this entire year, we have the bio blitz coming up in May. It is a 24 hour scientific exploration of the park. We're going to catalog it. In the catalog all the species and a number of activities associated with that. You called Cabrillo Monument a boutique Park. What you mean by that? I'm excited to be back in San Diego at this amazing national Park 25 years into my career. This is a national monument but it has all the features of the national Park. We have 160 acres. Within that, there is a pristine natural environment as well as a rich cultural history. It has all the features of the Yellowstone packaged up in a sweet little package overlooking San Diego. This is a special year for fourth-graders and parents of fourth-graders, right, throughout the parks? National Park Service as part of the Centennial is inviting all fourth-graders in our nation and their families to the national parks, and they can get a free America the beautiful pass which is a pass that will get you into all national parks the collect fees. It's a $70 value. And/or young person has to do is go on the website every kid the park.org intake a short quiz. Learn a little bit about a parks. Bring up the coupon, printed out, and bring it up to get a pass for the year. This will help us continue into the next year.
