Carlsbad police Monday were working to determine who left a suspicious object on a residential lawn in the North County city, prompting a response from the sheriff's bomb/arson unit.
The device, made of a plastic bottle, tin foil and a dark liquid, was discovered in the 1200 block of Abelia Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit responded and rendered the device safe, police said in a statement.
No one was injured and no property was damaged.
