As Votes Trickle In, Supervisor Bill Horn Widens Gap Over Jim Wood

Election results released Thursday in the closely contested San Diego County supervisor race showed incumbent Bill Horn continuing to pull away from Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood.

Horn, who led by around 1,500 votes on Wednesday night, widened his lead to more than 2,400 votes Thursday out of around 68,000 ballots cast, according to the county Registrar of Voters Office.

Around 98,000 absentee and provisional ballots were still left to be tallied after election night. That total has now been whittled to 71,000.

If Horn maintains his lead, he would serve a sixth term. The district includes the Highway 78 corridor of Oceanside, Vista and San Marcos, as well as more rural North County communities.

Thursday's update ballot counting did not significantly alter the margins in any other major races.
