HINTERLAND: Season 3

The series continues with new nail-biting episodes set in the scenic, centuries-old town of Aberystwyth, Wales.

It's the third and final season of the acclaimed drama HINTERLAND. Having survived the fire that destroyed his home at the end of Season 2, DCI Tom Mathias (Richard HarringtonPOLDARK) returns to the heart of Aberystwyth.

An old unsolved case from years ago lures him back in, but threatens to divide the investigative team. While Mathias wrestles with his past, Detective Sian Owens looks to the current mystery of who burned down Mathias' home, and by season’s end, the mysteries will collide in a chilling conclusion.

EPISODE GUIDE:

Episodes 1 and 2 air Sunday, Sept. 23 from 10-11:30 p.m. - The killing of a local minister leads DCI Tom Mathias and DS Mared Rhys to a remote community in the mountains.

Confronted by a family in grief as well as neighboring residents in a state of shock, they must tread carefully as they investigate the life and violent death of the troubled victim.

As the case unfolds, DS Sian Owens is charged with leading a separate investigation into the recent attack on Mathias; an attack that left his home destroyed and his skull split open.

DS Owens' investigation is an unwelcome distraction for Mathias, and he struggles to keep his emotions in check as the two cases collide.

Episodes 3 &4 air Sunday, Sept. 30 from 10-11:30 p.m. - When curator Laura Dean is discovered in a shallow grave in a remote woodland, Mathias and his team must delve into the young victim's life to unearth some shocking secrets.

Meanwhile, Prosser – still reeling from the death of Iwan Thomas — calls on the help of retired Chief Inspector Robert Owen.

The discovery of Iwan Thomas's body puts DCI Mathias on the firing line as he becomes the main suspect in Iwan's mysterious death.

Matters are made worse when an independent investigator, John Powell, is brought in to help solve the case and invites DS Owens to assist with his enquiries.

As tensions rise, DCI Mathias must attempt to solve the mystery surrounding Laura Dean's death and put his personal problems in the back of his mind.

Episodes 5 & 6 air Sunday, Oct. 7 from 10-11:30 p.m. - Following a fatal shooting at a remote petrol station, local man Llew Morris is identified as the chief suspect.

Determined to find the killer, DCI Mathias and DI Rhys visit the house where Llew grew up and make a gruesome discovery which cements Llew's guilt.

Tensions escalate even further when news arrives that Llew's young son has disappeared from his school. Desperate to find the missing boy and his rampaging father, DCI Mathias breaks protocol and sets off into the mountains alone.

With the clock ticking, Mathias puts his life on the line. Meanwhile, independent investigator John Powell is put under pressure to close the Iwan Thomas case.

Episodes 7 & 8 air Sunday, Oct. 14 from 10-11:30 p.m. - The past comes back to haunt DCI Mathias as he investigates the death of Catrin John, convicted killer and former resident of the Pontarfynach Children's Home.

As Mathias and Mared investigate Catrin's death, they begin to suspect it might be linked to the death of former police officer Iwan Thomas.

However, Independent investigator John Powell is on the cusp of ruling Iwan's death as a suicide — could their discovery change the outcome?

With mounting pressure on him coming from all directions to close the case, will Mathias toe the line or will he risk everything in pursuit of the truth?
