The San Diego Symphony is shaking things up this summer with a free concert that includes both a full symphonic performance and a spotlight on San Diego's music scene.

Sounds of the City is a community celebration that also includes free violin lessons, Giant Jenga, bocce ball and other family-friendly activities.

The event kicks off with local music by Todo Mundo, King Taylor Project and singer Raelee Nikole.

That's followed with a performance by the San Diego Symphony playing music by Academy Award-winning composer John Williams. Audiences will hear "Harry's Wondrous World" from "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"; "Hymn to the Fallen" from "Saving Private Ryan"; "Imperial March" from "The Empire Strikes Back"; and "Rey's Theme" from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," among many others.

On KPBS Midday Edition on Tuesday, the San Diego Symphony's Adrienne Valencia, director of education and community engagement, and Allison Morrissey, education programs coordinator, discusses the concert, as well as other community outreach projects.
