Marines Banned from Loudly Passing Gas

Whether you call it breaking wind or stepping on a duck, if you're a Marine in Afghanistan, you can't do it loudly. The Military Times blog Battle Rattle reported this week that a new policy bans Marines from audibly passing gas. Not surprisingly, the story has since been picked up by ABC News, Perez Hilton - even The Best Week Ever, whose writer coined the phrase "Don't Ask, Don't Smell."

The logic behind this new rule? According to Battle Rattle blogger Gina Cavallago, noisy toots are frowned upon in Afghan culture, like a lot of other things:

The new policy is causing quite a stink on the Battle Rattle comment board, where some Marines suggest it's virtually impossible not to get gas after eatingMREs. Perhaps SBD is the answer?
