Federal prosecutor Carol Lam contacted the Justice Department after she obtained a warrant to search the home and office of former CIA official Kyle "Dusty" Foggo.
The next day, Kyle Sampson, the attorney general's chief of staff, wrote to the White House deputy counsel about "the real problem we have right now with Carol Lam." The Foggo search warrant was connected to Lam's investigation of Republican Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham.
Both Foggo and Cunningham were later indicted.
