Rockalina was an adult eastern box turtle living in the wild when she was taken into a New York home in 1977. When a reptile rehabilitation center got a hold of her this February, they worried for her survival.

The law aims to prevent officers fired by one department for bad behavior from later finding a job in another. So far, 20 officers from local departments have been decertified for offenses ranging from sexual misconduct to domestic violence to dishonesty.

The law passed several years ago allows the state to strip officers of their badges for good if they commit acts of serious misconduct. But departments, including some in San Diego County, have submitted very few — or even zero — cases for review.

There will be a live band and food trucks, with the fireworks starting at 9 p.m.Monetary donations at the gates will be appreciated and necessary to offset the expenses of conducting the fireworks show, security, insurance, and rental of the site from the Poway Unified School District.When the parking lots reach capacity, viewers will be required to park on adjacent city streets. A new cultural tradition is coming to East County! On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Downtown El Cajon will debut Artivál, East San Diego County’s first-ever arts festival. The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo & Memorial Festival is held annually in the rural town of Valley Center, CA over the Memorial Day weekend. Our quaint community is nestled in the mountains of North San Diego County and still exemplifies many aspects of America's traditional western and agricultural lifestyles.Since 2002, the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo has provided a family-friendly rodeo as part of the annual week-long western heritage celebration that began in 1950. In 2015, we created the Memorial Festival to pay tribute to our nation’s veterans. The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo & Memorial Festival provides the ultimate venue for our town and surrounding communities to come together and participate in America’s greatest showcase of patriotism and western heritage…rodeo!In 2017, the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) sanctioned the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo, making it the first-ever professional rodeo in Valley Center.The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo committee takes great pride in showcasing local youth through our "Mutton Bustin’" event, Junior Barrel Racing, and a Calf Scramble during intermission that is open to children in attendance free of charge.
