John Waters has been called the master of trash and an icon of independent cinema. He has made films, put out two compilation albums of his favorite music and shown his artwork in galleries around the

Tom Fudge: You may know that music has become a staple of John Waters' work. His movie Hairspray was made into a hit Broadway musical, directed by San Diego's Jack O'Brian. Now, Waters is in town to help the La Jolla Playhouse put his movie Cry-Baby on the stage. Cry-Baby is about life in 1950s Baltimore. It features characters who are Squares and the anti-squares, called the Drapes.
