The county of San Diego is holding $366,000 in unclaimed money, and Monday is the last day to apply to get the funds returned, county Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said Wednesday.
"We are giving one last shout-out to anyone that has done business with the county to check the list at www.sdtreastax.com and see if they are owed any money," McAllister said. "These funds will be property of the county after the Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, deadline. I urge you to check the list."
The money, from 1,684 accounts, ranges from $10.11 to $8,750, which was left behind by Elizabeth Beal, a woman who died without heirs several years ago, according to McAllister's office. The money, held by the county's Public Administrator/Public Guardian's Office, would go to a blood relative of Beal.
McAllister announced in July that his office was seeking the owners of more than $409,000 before Monday's deadline.
State law allows money that remains unclaimed for more than three years and property tax refunds that are unclaimed for more than four years to be turned over to the county's general fund, he said.
