Start 'em early.

Last week we asked you to do us a favor: Call your dad or your grandpa and ask him what his favorite song was when he was your age. Their favorite songs surprised us — and you! Your memories of listening to music with Dad reminded us why music is important to us in the first place. We need it to help us celebrate, to let us talk to each other even when we're fighting about everything else and, most importantly, to remind people we're still cool.

Below you can read some of your comments from Facebook, and hear the songs some of your dads loved back in the day.

Click the audio link above to hear Robert Siegel and me talk about their favorites. In case you're wondering, when my dad was my age his favorite song was Steely Dan's "My Old School," and Robert's favorite when he was his daughters' age was Stephane Grappelli and Yehudi Menuhin's "I Get A Kick Out Of You."
