In this talk, scholar Che Gossett focuses on Kiyan Williams’s performance and sculpture especially: "Unearthing" (2016), Trash and Treasure" (2014) "Meditations on the Making of America" (2019), "Ruins of Empire II or The Earth Swallows the Master’s House" (2024). In Williams’s work, anti-black and racial capitalist World is negated and abolished — in its ruination new critical forms crystallize and figurations of the flesh emerge, reverberating and interinanimating each other.Che Gossett is a Black nonbinary femme writer and critical theorist specializing in queer/trans studies, aesthetic theory, abolitionist thought, and Black studies. Gossett’s writing appears in publications including the edited collections "Death and Other Penalties: Continental Philosophers on Prisons and Capital Punishment" (Fordham University Press, 2015), "Trap Door: Trans Cultural Production and the Politics of Visibility" (MIT Press, 2017), and "Trans Philosophy" (University of Minnesota Press, 2024). Che is co-editing, with Tavia Nyong’o, a forthcoming special issue of Social Text journal on Sylvia Wynter, culture, and technics. They are the recipient of a 2024 Creative Capital Andy Warhol Writers Grant, and are currently associate director of the Center for Research in Feminist, Queer, and Transgender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

In Korean culture, bojagi are believed to wrap not only objects but also bok—good fortune or happiness.Youngmin will share her personal creative journey and pursuit of happiness, which have connected her to a broader creative community. Through her work, she will discuss how she inspires and educates, helping to ensure that the art of bojagi continues to thrive for future generations.Youngmin Lee is a textile artist specializing in the traditional Korean art of bojagi. Since relocating from South Korea to California in 1996, she has dedicated herself to preserving and innovating within this tradition, which emphasizes sustainability through recycling and upcycling fabric remnants.In 2024, Youngmin published "Bojagi: The Art of Korean Textiles," a book that delves into the beauty and history of bojagi. Your data collection will make a big difference by contributing to local and statewide conservation efforts. * Take a tour and guided nature walk led by our knowledgeable docents. * Finally, pitch in to help protect this rare habitat by removing invasive, non-native plants, repairing the protective sand fence, and removing trash. This quirky New Zealand mystery follows DI Mike Shepherd, who arrives to the seemingly peaceful town of Brokenwood with a classic car, a country music collection, and an indeterminate number of ex-wives. His assistant, DC Kristin Sims, is a by-the-book investigator 15 years younger than her boss's car. Shepherd soon discovers that Brokenwood is full of secrets and suspicions.

Celebrated harpsichordist Jean Rondeau returns to San Diego, this time with his ensemble Nevermind, to present their brand-new transcription of the Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, by Johann Sebastian Bach. With Anna Besson on flute, Louis Creac’h on violin, and Robin Pharo on viola da gamba, the ensemble worked extensively on the transcriptions, shining new light on Bach’s masterpiece and unveiling new possibilities within the music. The concert will be held at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church on March 14th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and additional information are available on the society’s website.
