Dry, hot and windy conditions have increased fire danger for the mountains and deserts of San Diego, Riverside and San Bernadino counties. The Red Flag warning is in effect until nine tonight. KPBS Reporter Ed Joyce has more.

National Weather Service forecaster Stan Wasowski says the warning means weather conditions are ripe for wildfires.

Wasowski: "This time of year in Southern California you don't get any rain anyways, therefore the fuels dry out, so you're always going to have the potential to get a wildfire started when people are careless with the way they're doing their campfires or whatever. Say they're grading and a bulldozer hits a rock, a spark flies off and hits into some dry brush and starts a fire that way."

Wasowski says the windy conditions are expected to die down tonight which should help ease the fire danger. Even when the red flag warnings are removed, he urges people to be careful in camping areas because of the dry conditions. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
