Red Cross officials in Tijuana will meet over the weekend to discuss new security measures. This in the wake of yesterday’s shootout that left three people dead and two Red Cross ambulances out of commission.
The ambulances were hit by bullets as a group of heavily armed men shot their way into Tijuana's General Hospital to free an injured man the Red Cross had rushed to the hospital moments earlier.
As KPBS Border Reporter Amy Isackson reports the Red Cross may make changes to protect paramedics.
Isackson : They're considering creating a team to respond to organized crime incidents. They're also considering asking for bullet proof vests. Tijuana Red Cross officials say yesterday was not the first time gunmen shot at paramedics. Officials say luckily, no paramedics have died as a result.
