City Attorney Aguirre Says Tax Increase May Solve Pension Deficit
Alison St John: San Diego City Attorney Mike Aguirre has had little success with his attempt to roll back hundreds of millions of dollars in pension benefits granted by the city to its employees in 1996 and 2002. However, a tentative ruling by Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Barton leaves open a loop hole for possible future litigation against benefits for people who retired after 2004. That's when the city reached the so called Gleason settlement with its retirees. Aguirre is now offering to stop all his pension litigation, on one or two conditions.
