Explore ceramic handbuilding & funky glazes! Mondays, June 9, 16, 23, 30, July 14 From 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. In this 5-week series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional pieces with an emphasis on decorative techniques. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with underglazes, slips, glaze, and various experimental materials. Students will complete multiple projects throughout the course with an artistic and creative approach to decorative designs. Inspired by printmaking, painting and drawing, we will explore image transfers, mark making, layering, stencils, and more! Through the use of technique and materials, students will explore the fusion of 2D art and 3D form. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors through the course. The instructor will have a wide array of custom decorative materials for use and sale. All materials provided. Additional materials available via the instructor for a fee. Catherin and Robert Palmer Gallery 20th Annual SDSU Art Council Scholarship Exhibition The Athenaeum Art Center is proud to present an exhibition of artwork by graduate and upper-division undergraduate students of the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University. Since 2002, the SDSU Art Council has awarded scholarships to a select number of students who, in addition to the Council's financial support, receive the opportunity to present their artwork at the Athenaeum. This year’s scholarship recipients and exhibiting artists are Carolina Danu, Sarah Garcia, Kaitlyn Hulslander, Harper Pam, and Bryce Wall. Dive into the world of video games at the San Diego Public Library’s 3rd annual Game Jam! Learn the basics of game development and design, then collaborate in teams to build your own game using Godot, RenPy, or Scratch. During the Game Jam, teams can work together remotely and/or in person to complete their projects and can attend optional drop-in sessions for instructor support.
