Come and join us for a dynamic day of storytelling--the 14th annual Storytelling Festival of San Diego-- with the theme of "Building Bridges" presented by Storytellers of San Diego and the Coronado Public Library. There is something for everyone--story concerts, workshops, community guest tellers and children's programming.
Delve into storytelling workshops:
- Workshop with Emily Stamets - Strategies for crafting emotional peaks and valleys in your narrative. Later are two more workshops.
- Workshop with Miyo Yamauchi - Crafty Tales 101 - choosing topics and crafting a tale.
- Workshop with Sara Armstrong - Dilemma Tales. Thought-provoking tales from many lands to inspire problem-solving, contemplation and lively conversations.
For children:
Storytelling for Kids—“Building Bridges."
Enjoy playful stories by adults on cooperation, community and collaboration.
12 - 12:50: Children’s Area
Stories from Around the World
Adults tell engaging tales with song, movement, puppets and more, inviting audience participation.
2:00 - 2:50: Children’s Area
Kids Tell
Coronado elementary students tell prepared tales onstage.
Then adults from the Storytelling Institute at the library will take the stage.
3:00 - 3:50: Winn Room
Community tellers include the always popular "Real People; Real Stories" from military veterans at 2 p.m. A panel of interviewees from the book "We Made San Diego"--contributions by Mexican Americans to San Diego-- will be hosted by Maria E. Garcia, author, at noon. The Turning Wheel Bus will be parked outside next to a customized low rider vehicle at 2pm. The bus features the history of the Chicano Park murals and Logan Heights, and will be augmented with a presentation of low-rider history by Dr. Alberto Pulido, and low-rider owner, Maritza.
The story concerts, generally for ages 12 and up, are presented by working storytellers and designed to captivate. At 11 a.m. "Building Bridges" commences, followed by "Paving the Way", Music and Open Mic, "Art & Stories" features tellers with Emily Stamets spinning yarn onstage. The grand finale at 4 p.m. is "Voices at the Water's Edge."
